I recently purchased a wireless adapter for my computer from an electronics store. I bought it because I thought it must be the best one since it had the highest price good quality simply because it was expensive.
Unfortunatly when I took it home and installed it into my desktop I found that it one big problem: It messed up my desktop’s audio. I then went online and Googled it and found that many other people had experienced this same issue. If I had only done that research before I bought it, I would have saved myself a good amount of time and money. By the way, the wireless adapter I bought is the D-Link DWA-552 Xtreme N Desktop Adapter. Obviously I cannot recommend it.

The Earth’s surface weather conditions are observed via automated machines. These weather instruments are also referred to as AWOS or ASOS. There are a number of 
airports around the world that maintain sites that are manned to support the machines at weather stations. These sites calculate temperature, dew point, visibility and winds. The thermometer is used to measure temperature. It reveals maximum or minimum readings for the National Weather Service. The results are then aired or televised all over the world, and affect the working of various related industry individual undertakings.
Air Pressure is measured with the help of a barometer, while a rain gauge measures precipitation. There are two types of barometers; the Mercury and Aneroid barometer. 
The Mercury Barometer comprises a glass tube inserted in mercury. As the external air exerts pressure on the mercury within, the action forces a certain amount of the mercury to enter the tube. The height or level of mercury is always directly proportional to the atmospheric pressure outside. The psychrometer measurements on the temperature, humidity and dew point is got on dipping the wick in distilled water. In the sling psychrometer, the measurements are taken by whirling the instrument.
The sling psychrometer works on the level of evaporation of water from the wick on the wet bulb thermometer. This leads to cooling and with the help of the Relative Humidity Table, the difference in temperature results in the understanding of the level of relative humidity, in percent. The sling psychrometer reading can be accessed from a mobile or stable weather station to measure temperature, dew point and the relative humidity, any time of the day. This weather instrument is a must at any weather station, especially those at higher altitudes.
Most weather stations maintain readings from two major types of rain gauges. One is the tipping bucket and the other is the ‘weighing’ rain gauge. The rain gauge, as the name suggests rightly, measures rainfall over a pre determined period of time. This weather instrument consists of a funnel at the upper end. The aim is to direct the rain water into the long and narrow cylinder within the larger outer cylinder. The readings of this weather instrument are very important to calculate the rainfall received and compare it to the previous year’s readings. This enables the Weather Bureau to realize effective measures and timely steps to prevent a further drop or get geared for an over-douse!

I Don’t Care What the Weatherman Says
It is clear that weather forecasting is only predictable up to a certain point. This is due to the huge number of differing influences that can affect a predictable climate. Topgraphy, sea temperature, wind speed, city heat islands…these are just some of the variables that mean weather forecasting is unlikely to ever be an exact science.
However general patterns exist and simply by measuring the weather and noticing its trends, you can get a pretty good idea yourself of what sort of weather is on its way.
So how do we measure the weather? Well technology has advanced so much that we can all measure the weather wirelessly from the comfort of our own home. The main devices you will need to measure your weather are a Barometer (to measure air pressure), a thermometer (for outdoor temperature), an anemometer (or wind gauge, to measure wind speed) and a weathervane (for wind direction). There are other items you could add to this list such as a a pluviometer (rain gauge) and hygrometer (measuring moisture content in the atmosphere). And of course more advanced wireless weather stations will contain each of the above mentioned capabilities.

1. Barometers.
Barometric Pressure is the pressure of the atmosphere over the surface of the Earth. Barometric Pressure, also known as Air Pressure, is easily measured using a Barometer. These devices measure air pressure most commonly with mercury or water. Barometers come in all shapes and sizes and are frequently sought for their ornamental or decorative value as much as a tool for weather forecasting. But these days a wireless outdoor barometer is cheap and accurate, and essential for you to measure the pressure trends in the weather.
2. Thermometers.
Wireless thermometers are now becoming increasingly 
popular as they enable the user to monitor outdoor temperatures from the comfort of their own home. Also they measure the maximum and minimum temperatures. So if you are expecting a record low temperature overnight, you don’t have to stay up all night checking!
3.Anemometer. (wind gauge)
An Anemometer, or Wind Gauge, is a device used to measure the speed of the wind.
The simplest type 
of wind gauge is the cup-anemometer, consisting of four hemispherical cups mounted horizontally to each other on a vertical shaft. Generally Anemometers can be broadly split into 2 groups, Hand Held and Wireless.
The benefit of a hand held anemometer is that you can take it wherever you are, at the top of a mountain or on a cliff face overlooking the ocean, and record the wind speed at that exact moment. A wireless anemometer however allows you to take the wind speed at a fixed point and is often incorporated within wireless weather stations. It is important with a fixed wind gauge to ensure that it is as high as possible above the ground to reduce interfering eddy currents from nearby buildings. On the top of your roof is generally a good position or if you have a large open garden then place it at the end furthest away from buildings, trees and walls.
4. Weathervane.
Weathervanes (also know as wind vanes) have been used throughout history as a
means to gauge wind direction. They are a device attached to any elevated object to indicate the wind direction. Often a weathervane will be incorporated in your fixed anemometer. Of course wind direction is less accurately measured simply by being outside and gauging which direction the breeze is coming from, or which direction the clouds are moving.
Now that you have all these variables you are already your own weather forecaster. You can watch trends in the barometric pressure to see if the pressure is rising or falling, the variations in temperature and wind speed and direction. What else can a weatherman tell you?
With a little dedication maybe you will start your own weather diary or weather blog and publish your own particular weather conditions and trends for the world to see. Or pit your wits against the professionals and see if you can begin to forecast better than they!

Certain atomic clock models display air pressure history graphs, which denote the progress of barometric air pressure over a time interval. These weather station atomic clocks can be connected to your PC by means of the cable included, and all collected weather data can be transferred to the computer.
Advanced atomic clocks that can even predict the probabilities of snowfall, fog, frost, 
tempest, strong winds or storms are now manufactured. The alarm systems in these can be set to any individual preference such as a low or high indoor/outdoor temperature alarm, low or high indoor/outdoor humidity alarm, or a low air pressure alarm.
These weather station units work on AC/DC power adapters or with battery backups. Most of the atomic clocks can automatically set themselves to within one second of the official government time shown by the atomic clock in Boulder, Colorado. This is possible through a radio signal from the standard time center.

With the recent event and natural disasters I began to think recently about a few things. One of my biggest questions during my thoughts is: What happens if the weather gets so bad that the power goes out or even a new station loses broadcast with us? What do we do if we don’t know what the next few moments could bring or even the next day? Then I began to search around and I found a handy tool that may be just what we all need; a wireless weather station.
So what is a wireless weather station? It is a device that simply does not require a wire that can tell you may thing about the weather and happenings outside. Not only is this sort of device great for emergencies but has hundreds of practical uses and things that it can do. A few of the features are rainfall prediction, wind speed and direction, indoor outdoor temperature gauges, barometric pressure readings, humidity, incoming storm readings and more. Now you can already start to imagine some of the very useful features of a tool like this. Wireless weather stations could become very practical in many household due to their small storage and weather tracking abilities.
A wireless weather station could be very handy for a farmer or even an avid gardener. As the abilities to gauge barometric pressure and rainfall sure could help with crop and garden plantings. Or perhaps you own a green house and need to know if its going to freeze or not outside; this instrument could prove very useful and easy at the click of a button. The built in clock on a wireless weather station could prove useful as well, you could potential take it with you while you work and be able to tell what the weather will be like.
Another very unique function on some of the wireless weather stations is the 
portable ability. Most weather stations can run on either AA or AAA batteries or even an AC adapter. Some weather stations allow the ability to take them with you on trips and easily clip on your visor or dash in your car. That feature alone would come in very handy on a camping or fishing trip. Some weather stations needs to be within a few hundreds feet of their main station that you set up in the house and that to can run on an AC adapter or batteries. Again this item seems to appear handy during major or even minor storms where you can’t get the news or have a working radio. A few of the other wireless weather stations I have found online have a cool function of being able to use solar powered 
remotes with them. So you charge it by sunlight and don’t even need batteries which could come in handy if you were stranded and the batteries died or many other reasons.
In closing a wireless weather station has many uses and could be useful in any household. If you think you could ever need a tool like this I suggest you check into one. You never know when something like a wireless weather station may come in handy.

Mankind has always had a fascination with the climate and its many vagaries and this fascination has now been brought into our homes. with the popularity of the wireless weather station.
These nifty little gadgets keep track of temperature, air pressure, humidity, wind speed and direction, rainfall and even rainfall rate! And they also come with an inbuilt severe weather alarm to warn you of forthcoming storms. These alarms work on the principle that a sudden storm is preceded by a rapid drop in air pressure. Simple but clever. My alarm is normally triggered maybe once or twice a year, but if you live in an area renown for extreme weather a wireless weather station may prove to be very handy indeed.
More and more these stations are being designed to be aesthetically pleasing. The clinical electronic modern look can be replaced by a more retro design for the sentimental amongst us, but without losing any of the modern technology and functionality of course.
Wireless weather stations are ideal for use in the the office, looking far classier (in my opinion) than the desktop executive toys of the 80’s and 90’s. Professional weather stations have PC connections and related software. Wireless Weather Stations are very useful and are clearly the most convenient of all weather instruments. Radio waves transmit measurements from the remote sensors to the indoor display console, and this is the principle of wireless technology, which although very new is becoming an essential part of our day to day electronic living. Just look at the proliferation of wireless laptops.
A wireless weather station reads the indoor conditions as well as those outdoors. Some units are supplied with several consoles so you may locate them at various points around your home and garden. The weather station is also an automatically updating clock and calendar. It’s great to have the ability to measure all these climatic conditions from one simple console. It doesn’t seem two minutes since Bill Giles and Michael Fish were plying their trade with magnetic stick on clouds and a certain amount of guesswork.
So while you sit in your favourite chair, watching the telly and eating a snack, enjoy the sound of the rain on your window and the wind in the trees in perfect comfort.Let us indulge our passion with the weather and become amateur meteorologists. I reckon we can now give the professionals a decent run for their money.

My Home Weather Station - Why I Enjoy it so Much
I’ve always been a bit of a closet weather enthusiast. Ask me what the weather’s going to do, and I’d give you a 3-4 day forecast off the top of my head.
Well that got a bit embarrassing when the weather turned out differently, and I’ve had to take some good-natured kidding. However, things have changed since I got my own wireless weather station! The base receiver sits on my desk, and I have access at a glance to a range of weather data, which is measured right at my place rather than the general weather forecast for the area, and that has improved my forecast hit rate considerably.
Most of the info is for recording purposes only, and I am particularly interested in what the max/min temperatures are doing, and the forecast icons give a good indicator of where the weather pattern is headed. In addition to temperature, the unit also measures barometric pressure and humidity (indoor and out, including max/min).
Since we’re in a fairly windy area, it would also be interesting to see what speed the wind gusts are getting up to, so as soon as I can afford it I’d like to get a La Crosse professional weather station, which also measures wind direction and wind chill factor, dew point, and rainfall. The pro weather station can tell the rainfall over 1 hour, 24 hours and total rainfall - just as well all data can be uploaded to a PC so one can review the stats over a period. I remember how my father-in-law painstakingly used to record daily rainfall on the farm into a notebook and then manually calculate weekly, monthly and annual rainfall. I can’t imagine where I’d find the time nowadays…
What’s also neat about wireless weather stations is that they provide a wide range of alarm settings, which one can set to warn of stormy weather, high winds, critical temperatures etc., but I’ll stop dreaming for the moment - hopefully I can get that pro weather station soon.

A "yes" answer to any of those questions suggests that you could benefit from owning your own home weather station.
Now is a great time to get a weather station of your own. Recent improvements mean they have never before been so powerful, so easy to use and install, or so well priced.
I’m sure you’d like to know more, so here are some answers to the seven most commonly asked questions about home weather stations:
1. What is a Home Weather Station? 
A modern home weather station consists of one or more sensors which collect data on temperature, humidity, air pressure, rainfall, and wind direction and speed from around your home. This information is transferred to a receiver/display console located in the comfort of your home, and updated frequently. The cost and usefulness rises with the number of sensors used.
2. A friend had a weather station and there were cables everywhere. Why would I want that?
No problems there. Older home weather stations sent data along thin cables, but you will have no difficulty in finding suitable units which use radio to transmit the weather information, over effective ranges of 330 feet or more. No wires, no holes in the roof or wall.
3. How difficult are they to set up?
With a little preplanning, it takes little time or effort to get a home weather station up and running. Once you have chosen the positions for the sensors and receiver, and checked that they are in contact with each other, all you need is some very basic ability with a drill and screwdriver.
4. How reliable are home weather stations, and what do they cost?
Home weather stations vary from a simple temperature recorder to multi sensor arrays. Costs start from less than US$30 for the simplest models with a single sensor, up to around $5-600 for a quality home weather center. More specialized units, designed more for commercial and agricultural uses, run up to $3,000. Nevertheless, with a little bit of preparation and maintenance, you can expect the cheaper models to give good consistent service.
5. Will I just see raw weather data, or can I expect more?
You can expect a lot more. Most weather stations offer a range of calculated functions such as relative humidity, dewpoint, heat index and wind chill factor, depending on which sensors are used. Many have a basic forecasting ability, correct about three times out of four. Many include alarm functions which can be preset at critical high or low temperatures, high wind speeds etc. Almost all show the time, and many of the simpler ones can double as an alarm clock - imagine being woken in the morning with the console showing both the time and the outside temperature.
6. Can I connect my weather station to my computer?
In most cases, yes. In fact many of the better weather stations include software allowing easy connection. A wide range of commercial weather software is compatible with most weather station models.
Take it a step further and you can even link your weather station with automatic heating and watering systems (and much more). Imagine the savings in water use if your irrigation system was controlled by something a little smarter than a timer.
7. What other uses could a home weather station have?
I’ve mentioned a number of uses in the answers above, but a home weather station can help out anywhere that wind, rainfall or temperature data is useful. Most stations will handle several temperature sensors - you could check soil temperature to help guide you with spring or fall plantings, pool temperatures, or even temperatures in a baby’s nursery inside your home.
Or you could run a very simple system monitoring temperatures in an outdoor aviary or greenhouse.
On a different track, you can upload your data to a web page - many people do - or contribute to the overall USA weather picture by sending your information to CWOP (Citizen Weather Observer Program)
There are so many ways to benefit from a home weather station. But to my mind, I’ve left the best to last.
By observing the weather around your home, you are opening up a much wider field - the enjoyment of the natural world.
As you see patterns develop in the information you have collected, you’ll start to appreciate the weather maps, weather warnings, satellite images, radar and forecasts more. You’ll find yourself watching the clouds, and how they change with variations in air pressure or wind direction, and you may even improve on the official forecasts. 
And overall you’ll find yourself paying more attention to the world outside - not just the sky, wind and clouds but all other aspects of the natural world.
So if you can see a need for a home weather station, go ahead and get one that suits you. But don’t be surprised if your horizons expand well beyond your own backyard.
